MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (February 4, 2003) Members of the Minnesota Council on Foundations, a regional membership association for philanthropy, have elected three leaders of Minnesota's philanthropy community to their first terms on the Council's board of directors. The Council's board also has named a new chair.

The Council's new board members are: Ellis Bullock, executive director of the Grotto Foundation, St. Paul; Mark Murphy, manager, stakeholder relations for Cargill, Inc. and executive director of the Cargill Foundation, Minneapolis; and Andrew Turner, a trustee of the Turner Family Foundation, Minneapolis. The Council's membership elected the new board members at the organization's annual meeting on January 28, 2003.

At the annual meeting, the Council's board elected Charlotte Johnson, trustee of the Otto Bremer Foundation, St. Paul, as its new chair and Daniel Johnson, executive director of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation, St. Paul, as its new vice chair. The board also re-elected Holly Sampson, president of the Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation, Duluth, as secretary and Rod Boren, trustee of the Jerome Foundation, St. Paul, as treasurer.

"Our new board leadership brings incredible skills and experience that will help guide the Council in being the association of choice for people engaged in philanthropy in our region," said Council president Bill King. "They also bring diverse perspectives that will help the Council adapt to the changing needs of the many different and valuable types of philanthropy that are benefiting our communities today."

Founded in 1969, the Minnesota Council on Foundations' mission is to strengthen and expand philanthropy. The Council is a regional membership association of grantmakers working to improve the vitality and health of our communities, with a broad and diverse membership that includes private foundations, community and other public foundations, and corporate foundations and giving programs.
