Council Releases Largest-Ever Guide to
Minnesota Grantmakers
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (July 22, 2003) Nonprofits seeking the largest and most up-to-date print directory of Minnesota grantmakers will want to consult the newly released 2003/2004 edition of the Minnesota Council on Foundations' "Guide to Minnesota Grantmakers." The 12th edition of the popular Guide is the largest and most comprehensive in the publication's 24-year history. The 450-page directory provides hard-to-find information on 1,248 Minnesota foundations and corporate giving programs of all sizes, with information that can be found from no other printed source. "The Guide has long been Minnesota's premier print directory of grantmaking information," says Council president Bill King. "The Guide demonstrates the commitment of the state's grantmakers to be open about their work and effective partners with nonprofits." The 2003/2004 Guide includes detailed profiles for 389 Minnesota grantmakers, with information on their funding interests, application procedures and much more. To facilitate grantseeking research, the Guide includes seven indexes, including indexes by areas of interest, geographic focus, types of support and intended beneficiaries, plus indexes of board officers/trustees and staff. The Guide's expanded introductory section features comprehensive background information and resources on Minnesota grantmaking and grantseeking. In past years, the Council has published the Guide every two years. Starting this year, the Council plans to publish the Guide annually. Due to the success of the Council's Minnesota Grantmakers Online database service, which was launched in May 2002, the Council has discontinued the CD-ROM version of the Guide. MGO provides the same information in the Guide, but in a format that is more easily searchable and accessible and more up-to-date, plus information not available in the Guide. For more information on MGO, go to www.mcf.org/mngrants. The "Guide to Minnesota Grantmakers 2003/2004" is available for $85. More information and an order form can be found on the Council's Web site at www.mcf.org (select "MCF Resources") or by contacting the Council at 612/338-1989, info@mcf.org. The Guide also is available at libraries around the state. Founded in 1969, the Minnesota Council on Foundations' mission is to strengthen and expand philanthropy. The Council is a regional membership association of grantmakers working to improve the vitality and health of our communities. Council members include private foundations, community and other public foundations, and corporate foundations and giving programs.
