Grantseeking Seminar for Nonprofits Coming to Central Minnesota

Initiative Foundation Co-Sponsors Popular "Advanced Grantseeking Seminar"

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (April 14, 2003) On June 19, experienced nonprofit grantseekers in central Minnesota can access the state's leading grantseeking expertise when the Minnesota Council on Foundations' "Advanced Grantseeking Seminar" comes to the region. The daylong program is co-sponsored and hosted by the Initiative Foundation in Little Falls.

The interactive, hands-on seminar teaches advanced skills for developing successful grant proposals, using case studies, structured peer feedback of attendees' own proposals, and a sharing of lessons learned. A unique feature is small group discussions with Minnesota grantmakers, who will share their perspectives on what they look for in a proposal and how they make funding decisions.

"We are pleased to bring this useful seminar to central Minnesota to help local nonprofits enhance the effectiveness of their grantseeking," said Kathy Gaalswyk, president of the Initiative Foundation. "The Council's seminars receive consistently high marks from attendees."

Attendance is limited to people with at least one to two years of active grantseeking experience. The seminar will be held at the Initiative Foundation office, 405 First Street SE, and the registration fee is $110. Greater Minnesota residents can receive a $50 scholarship thanks to a subsidy from The Russell V. Ewald Fund, which was created by the six Minnesota Initiative Foundations, including the Initiative Foundation.

"I encourage all experienced grantseekers in the region to take advantage of this unique scholarship opportunity," said Gaalswyk. "You'll walk away with advanced skills and knowledge for honing your proposal-writing capabilities and moving your grantseeking efforts beyond basic proposal development. In today's economic environment, these learnings are more important than ever."

More information and a registration form for the Little Falls "Advanced Grantseeking Seminar" are available on the Council's Web site at www.mcf.org (select "Grantseeking Seminars"), or by contacting the Council at 612/338-1989, info@mcf.org.

Founded in 1969, the Minnesota Council on Foundations' mission is to strengthen and expand philanthropy. The Council is a regional membership association of grantmakers working to improve the vitality and health of our communities. Council members include private foundations, community and other public foundations, and corporate foundations and giving programs.
