Philanthropy Leaders Elected to Minnesota Council on Foundations Board

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (January 29, 2002)  Four leaders of Minnesota's philanthropy community have been elected to the board of directors of the Minnesota Council on Foundations, a regional membership association for philanthropy. The Council's four new board members are: Jackie Copeland Carson, vice president and managing director, U.S. Bank Philanthropic Services, Minneapolis; Trixie Golberg, executive director, Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation, Owatonna; Patti Hague, director of community relations, HealthPartners, Minneapolis; and Rick Scott, vice president for finance and administration, The McKnight Foundation, Minneapolis. The Council's membership elected the new board members at the organization's annual meeting on January 28, 2002.

"Our new board members bring skills and experiences that will be critical to helping the Council remain a vital, healthy and growing organization that effectively assists our members with their essential community work," said Council president Bill King. "They also bring perspectives from different forms of philanthropy - corporate giving, individual giving, private foundations and community foundations - that will help the Council adapt to the changing needs of the philanthropic field."

At the annual meeting, the Council's board of directors re-elected Chris Andersen as its chair and Marina Muņoz Lyon as its vice chair for 2002. Andersen is executive director of the Lutheran Community Foundation, Minneapolis. Lyon is vice president of Pohlad Family Charities, Minneapolis. The board also elected Holly Sampson, president of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation, Duluth, as its new secretary, and Rod Boren, trustee of the Jerome Foundation, St. Paul, as its new treasurer.

Founded in 1969, the Minnesota Council on Foundations' mission is to strengthen and to increase participation in philanthropy. The Council is a regional membership association of grantmakers working to improve the vitality and health of our communities, with a broad and diverse membership that includes private foundations, community and other public foundations, and corporate foundations and giving programs.
