You think you generally understand the financial information you get
with a grant proposal, but there are times when you either question what you
know, or a complex nonprofit situation has you perplexed. This session was
developed as a response to the many requests we've received for an in-depth
learning opportunity that goes beyond our popular beginners' workshop Financial
Basics of Grant Review.
Using actual grant proposals and related financial audits, this workshop offers
concrete technical analysis of more complex financials and an interactive panel
discussion with peer grantmakers about their strategies to get the full
financial story from grant applicants. Attendees will explore:
- How to interpret
the balance sheet and income statement
- How to spot "red
flags" on financial statements
- What can be
learned from the notes to audited statements
- Strategies for using
financial analysis to strengthen grant making
If you have a basic understanding of financial statements and enjoy learning
with and from colleagues at a similar knowledge level, this is the session for
you!

|
Note: Participants are encouraged to submit
actual nonprofit financial statements by August 28; two will be selected as an
example in the session. Names will be changed to protect the identity of the
nonprofit.
