New Resource Volunteering in America: State Trends and Rankings
This report from the Corporation for National and Community Service, based on an annual survey of 60,000 households begun in 2002 by the U.S. Census Bureau, says that nearly 29 percent of adult Americans volunteered in 2005, giving a median of 50 service hours. The report is the first to take a wide-ranging, in-depth look at volunteering at the national, regional and state levels. The study also reveals that the top five states for volunteering are Utah, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa and Alaska.
