Major local disasters – whether natural or man-made – seem to occur in
increasing frequency in our communities, state, region, nation and world. There
are all-too recent local reminders of the impact they can have: the I-35W bridge
collapse and the southern Minnesota floods of 2007, for example.
Responding to human and environmental needs after disasters involves the entire
fabric of community and government systems. What has been learned from past
corporate and private support in response to disaster relief that will help make
it most effective in the future?
Join funder colleagues in an important sharing of lessons learned from past
grantmaker responses to disasters, and hear how some funders are supporting
disaster preparedness and response work in innovative ways. Most importantly,
you will have an opportunity to discuss how philanthropy can be a stronger
partner in ensuring that the needs of all are met when disasters occur.
