    A Toolkit for Creating an Inclusive Grantmaking Organization

    The toolkit offers straightforward guidance to help funders practice diversity both within their organizations and in their grantmaking.
           
  • Diversity Framework
    MCF's groundbreaking guideline that frames the discussion of grantmakers' diversity practices around the four roles they play in a civil society.
     
  • Diversity Practices in Philanthropic Organizations
    This special chapter of MCF's Principles for Grantmakers and Practice Options for Philanthropic Organizations documents offers foundations and corporate giving programs some fresh ideas, good practices and current examples of diversity work in the field.
     
  • "Race Matters" Toolkit
    Developed by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, this toolkit is designed to help decisionmakers, advocates and elected officials address policies and practices that contribute to inequitable outcomes for children, families, and communities. The toolkit includes a PowerPoint presentation that offers fact sheets on key areas (health, education, income security, etc.), a racial equity impact analysis tool, community building strategies, and an organizational self-assessment.

  • "The Meaning and Impact of Board and Staff Diversity in the Philanthropic Field"
    Joint Affinity Groups, May 2002
    This report shows that the philanthropy field has made some progress in becoming more diverse, but still faces many important challenges in addressing diversity issues if grantmakers are to respond effectively to the needs of the communities they serve.

    MCF's survey of Minnesota grantmakers' inclusive practices and successful and unsuccessful strategies to meet diversity goals.
         
  • Cultures of Caring: Philanthropy in
    Diverse American Communities

    Council on Foundations
    This report offers viewpoints on philanthropy from affluent donors who are African American, Asian American, Latino and Native American. The donors share their feelings about giving; how they select the organizations they support; how they feel about establishing private foundations, setting up funds in community foundations and contributing to existing charities.
        
  • What Foundation Boards Are Saying About Diversity

    In this paper, diverse board members from foundations across the country share their experiences of board service. The paper offers a candid distillation of the realities of board service from a board members' point of view.
