Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation Supports Emergency Services, Women and Girls Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation, Duluth, has shown its commitment to human services in northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin with two recent rounds of grantmaking. The grants included support for emergency services, mentoring and volunteerism, and program and services for women and girls. In the area of emergency services, the foundation awarded $17,000 to the Northeast Minnesota Sharing Fund to provide one-time emergency financial assistance through the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency, Virginia, to help low-income households in crisis. The foundation also awarded $10,000 to the Duluth-Superior Sharing Fund, to help the Salvation Army in Duluth and the Salvation Army in Superior to help those in crisis. The Center Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse in Superior received a $3,670 grant for the Emergency Shelter Program. In the area of women and girls, the foundation provided $3,000 to Building for Women in Duluth, to support the organization's Web site. The foundation also granted $4,000 to the Program for Aid to Victims of Sexual Assault, Duluth, to start up several adolescent girls support groups. Recreational Experiences Achieving Community Harmony (R.E.A.C.H.) in Cloquet received a $4,000 grant to start a mother-daughter program. In the areas of mentoring and volunteerism, Northwest Wisconsin Community Services Agency of Superior received a $12,463 grant to expand the Kinship Mentoring of Douglas County program. East Hillside PATCH in Duluth received $3,000 to help fund a volunteer coordinator position. The foundation also made grants in the areas of arts, community and economic development, education and the environment.
