Initiative Foundation Seeks to Improve Quality of
Life for Seniors and Youth The Initiative Foundation, Little Falls, has awarded funding to improve the quality of life for both ends of the age spectrum in central Minnesota through its latest round of grants. In the area of youth, the foundation awarded $10,000 to Kettle Kinship in Sandstone to form 15 new adult-youth mentorship matches. The foundation also committed $5,000 to support family literacy efforts to prepare preschoolers for kindergarten success in the Onamia school district. In the area of seniors, the foundation awarded $1,000 to support a conference designed to encourage communication between seniors and law enforcement agencies. The foundation also made a $10,000 grant to start three new "Let’s Go Fishing" chapters in central Minnesota to help arrange fishing and boating outings for seniors. In the economic development area, the Brian Klinefelter Memorial Foundation received a $10,000 grant to promote family-friendly employee policies within St. Cloud area businesses. The foundation also awarded Cambridge Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation $5,000 to start a Small Business Development Center that will provide planning, management and financing assistance to new and expanding companies. Three other Initiative Foundation-hosted partner funds — the Greater Pine Area Endowment, Little Falls Area Foundation and the Schlagel Endowment — also awarded eight grants totaling $24,000. In total, the foundation awarded 21 community grants totaling $79,300. The following is a complete listing of organizations selected as grant recipients: Arc Central Minnesota, St. Cloud: $500, to review and update a strategic plan completed through the Initiative Foundation’s Healthy Organizations Partnership program. Brian Klinefelter Memorial Foundation, Sartell: $10,000, to strengthen families by partnering with St. Cloud area businesses to develop family-friendly employee policies. Cambridge Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation: $300, to offset expenses for attending legislative sessions in Washington, D.C.; and $5,000, to establish a regional Small Business Development Center that provides consulting assistance to new and expanding businesses. Cass County, Walker: $1,000, to support a conference to improve communication between senior citzens and law enforcement agencies. Communities Connecting Cultures, Melrose: $1,000, to offset salary expenses for a Latino community liaison while the permanent staff member is away on medical leave. Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest, Brainerd: $500, to review and update a strategic plan completed through the Initiative Foundation’s Healthy Organizations Partnership program. Kettle Kinship, Sandstone: $10,000, to ensure the creation of 15 new adult-youth mentorships through additional staffing. Let's Go Fishing of Minnesota, Willmar: $10,000, to start three new central Minnesota chapters designed to enhance senior citizens’ quality of life through fishing and boating. Onamia School District: $5,000, to support early childhood literacy sessions and family learning events to prepare young children for success in kindergarten. Pine Technical College, Pine City: $9,000, to assess telecommunications usage and needs of businesses and organizations in east central Minnesota. The Minneapolis Foundation: $2,000, to support live webcasts of three events on immigration in Minnesota. Works In Progress, Sauk Rapids: $1,000, to support 12 scholarships for women to attend a professional, motivational and networking conference.
City of Pine City: $5,375, to update CD’s promoting Pine City’s natural resources, economic development incentives, educational institutions and skilled labor market to new and expanding companies. Cross Lake Association of Pine County, Pine City: $750, to conduct a photographic documentation of the Snake River and Cross Lake shorelines for historical reference and planning. Pine City Cooperative Nursery School: $2,000, to replace old and unsafe furniture for an early childhood preschool. Pine Technical College, Pine City: $7,875, to extend fiber-optic, broadband infrastructure for businesses and government organizations along the County Road 7 corridor.
Great River Arts Association, Little Falls: $5,000, to complete the renovation of an arts building for public use.
Isanti County Humane Society, Cambridge: $500, to provide animal care and placement services. Pregnancy Resource Center of Cambridge: $1,500, to provide support and programs for unplanned pregnancies. Young Life, Cambridge: $1,000, to provide faith-based educational programs for local youth. |
