Minnesota Twins Community Fund Helps Renovate Flood-Damaged Ball Fields in Roseau

The Minnesota Twins Community Fund, a component fund of Minneapolis-based Pohlad Family Charities, has awarded a "Fields for Kids" grant to the city of Roseau to repair flood-damaged ball fields. The Fields for Kids grant program was established in 1999 to improve the condition of youth baseball and softball fields.

The Minnesota Twins held a pre-game ceremony on August 18 that featured a special tribute to residents of Roseau County, many of who were in attendance thanks to a donation of 4,000 tickets by the Twins, in partnership with Best Buy and the city of Roseau. Twins third baseman Corey Koskie, a Minnesota Twins Community Fund board member, presented a $5,000 check to Roseau mayor Jeff Pelowski at the game.

"The Twins welcome the residents and volunteers of Roseau and surrounding communities and salute their work to rebuild their city," said Minnesota Twins COO Kevin Cattoor, a Minnesota Twins Community Fund board member, prior to Sunday's game. "We are honored to contribute these funds to help repair Roseau's ball fields and stand prepared to continue the team's strong tradition of supporting Upper Midwest communities in need."

Minneapolis YWCA CEO Nancy Hite, chair of the Minnesota Twins Community Fund, said the 19-member board also agreed to consider any other similar requests for support to repair youth baseball or softball field damage caused by nature. In past seasons, the Minnesota Twins have assisted communities that were impacted by floods and tornadoes throughout Minnesota, Iowa and the Dakotas.

In the past four years, the Fields for Kids program has granted more than $565,000 to 180 baseball and softball organizations that serve more than 50,000 youth in Upper Midwest communities.
