West Central Initiative Awards Grants for Families

West Central Initiative, Fergus Falls, has awarded new grants under its Family Initiative program during fiscal year 2004. The Family Initiative is designed to develop and implement a process for assisting communities to become healthier places for families and children.

Recipients of WCI's recent grants include:

  • Anishinaabe Center & Gallery, Detroit Lakes, $10,000 for the Young Warrior Society.
  • Community of Brandon, $20,000 grant for the Family Initiative program; $5,000 for early childhood expenses and $5,000 for a local early childhood initiative coordinator.
  • Douglas County, $15,000 for the Healthy Community/Healthy Youth program.
  • Fergus Falls Community Youth Partners, $10,000 for the Building Bridges to the Future program.
  • Grant County Child and Youth Council, $20,000 for the Family Understanding Network (F.U.N.).
  • Henning Community Health Action Team, $15,000 grant for the Family/School/Community program.
  • Hoffman Square, Hoffman, $10,000 for the Partners in Pride project.
  • Moorhead Healthy Communities Initiative, $10,000 for an asset-building program in Moorhead.
  • New York Mills IMPACT, $15,000 for the New York Mills IMPACT Team.
  • Community of Pelican Rapids, $5,000 for a local early childhood initiative coordinator.
  • Perham Area Vision to Action, grants of $15,000 and $5,833 for the Perham Area Family Initiative; $15,000 for the early childhood initiative; $5,000 for a local early childhood initiative coordinator; and $5,000 for early childhood expenses.
  • Pine Point, $15,000 for the Hoops and Homework project.
  • Pope County Family Collaborative, $5,000 for an early childhood initiative local coordinator; $5,000 for early childhood initiative expenses; and $15,000 for the Family Education and After school Enrichment program.
  • Stevens County, $10,000 for the their asset-building toolbox program; $5,000 for a local early childhood coordinator, and $5,000 for early childhood initiative expenses.
  • Community of White Earth, $5,000 for a local early childhood initiative coordinator.
  • Wilkin County Collaborative Healthy Communities/Healthy Youth program, $15,000 for support of this program.

In total, West Central Initiative awarded more than $250,000 in grants to organizations and programs in west central Minnesota.
