King Elected Board Chair of Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers

The Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers, a network of 31 regional membership associations of grantmakers, elected Bill King the new chair of the board of directors at the forum’s recent annual meeting.

King, president of the Minnesota Council on Foundations, will lead the organization over the next two years in its efforts to enhance, expand and explain philanthropy. “As regional associations, we work together to strengthen the effectiveness of those in the field, to engage more people and organizations in giving and to provide the most reliable and unbiased information available about giving by region,” he said.

In 2000, King became president of the Minnesota Council on Foundations, a membership organization that works actively to strengthen and expand philanthropy. He has served MCF for 18 years, managing education and professional development programs, strategic planning efforts, race and diversity initiatives and special projects. Prior to joining MCF, King was a consultant in grant review and program development with several corporate and private foundations. King is a founding board member and former vice-chair of the Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers.

The Forum of Regional Associations of Grantmakers is the national network of regional associations and related groups advancing philanthropy in their specific geographic areas. The regional associations serve more than 5,500 foundations, corporations and other organizations across the United States. Through New Ventures in Philanthropy, a special initiative to grow new philanthropic capital, the forum’s nationwide network also serves as the bridge between existing grantmakers and potential ones, region by region. Another national initiative is focused on enhancing the effectiveness and accountability of all regional associations and their members. The collective knowledge and resources of these groups help to strengthen and grow philanthropy to serve the public good. Visit their Web site at www.givingforum.org.
