Minnesota Council on Foundations Elects New
Board Members, Chair
Members of the Minnesota Council on Foundations, a regional membership association for philanthropy, have elected four leaders of Minnesota's philanthropy community as new members of the Council's board of directors. The Council's new board members are: James Frey, trustee, Frey Foundation, Minneapolis; José González, program officer, Bush Foundation, St. Paul; Karen Kelley-Ariwoola, vice president community philanthropy, The Minneapolis Foundation, Minneapolis; and Jo-Anne Stately, senior program officer, The Saint Paul Foundation, St. Paul, and vice president of development, Indian Land Tenure Foundation, Little Canada. The Council's membership elected the new board members at the organization's annual meeting on January 23, 2004. The Council also re-elected four current directors to additional terms on the board: Ellis Bullock, executive director, Grotto Foundation, St. Paul; Paddy McNeely, trustee, McNeely Foundation, St. Paul; Valerie Pace, state manager, corporate community relations, IBM, Rochester; and Karl Stauber, president, Northwest Area Foundation, St. Paul. Also at the annual meeting, the Council's board elected Daniel Johnson, executive director of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation, St. Paul, as its new chair. In addition, the board elected the following officers for 2004: vice chair: Ellen Goldberg Luger, director of the foundation, General Mills Community Action; secretary: Holly Sampson, president, Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation, Duluth; treasurer: Karl Stauber, president, Northwest Area Foundation, St. Paul. "Our new board leadership brings strong and diverse skills, experiences and perspectives that will help guide the Council in continuing to be the association of choice for people engaged in philanthropy in our region," said Council president Bill King. Three retiring Council board members were honored at the annual meeting for their years of service to the organization: Kyoko Katayama, trustee, Stull Family Foundation (board member 2001-2003); Marina Muñoz Lyon, vice president, Carl and Eloise Pohlad Family Foundation (board member 1999-2003); and Laysha Ward, vice president community relations, Target Corporation (board member 2001-2003). Outgoing board chair Charlotte Johnson, trustee, Otto Bremer Foundation, was also recognized for her board leadership to the Council. |
