Rochester Area Foundation Helps Build Nonprofit Capacity

The Rochester Area Foundation has awarded grants to help two local organizations build their capacity to carry out specific programs.

The foundation approved a $12,470 grant to the Olmsted County Historical Society to pay two part-time persons for one year to enter information on up to 7,000 items in its collection into an electronic database. The database eventually will become a computer catalog of all of the society's collection.

In addition, Commonweal Theatre Company in Lanesboro will receive $5,000 from the foundation to add 15 new schools and 1,000 more students to its 2004 student matinee series. The program involves professional actors from the theater visiting area schools prior to their attendance at the historic theater in Fillmore County. In addition, teachers receive a study guide and students participate in post-performance discussions following the live presentation.

The foundation also recently awarded $79,220 in local grants from various donor-advised funds it manages.
