Northwest Minnesota Foundation Provides Emergency Assistance for Flood Victims

In response to the extreme flooding in its 12-county service region, Bemidji-based Northwest Minnesota Foundation has provided funding for emergency assistance to flood victims.

The foundation awarded $40,000 to Northwest Community Action, to serve the hardest hit area of Roseau County, and $5,000 each to Tri-Valley Opportunity Council and Mahube Community Action Agency, to help people in the Norman and Mahnomen County area. At the discretion of these agencies, eligible individuals and families will be assisted with funds for basic food, shelter, clothing and transportation emergencies.

"Once the initial grant funds have been disbursed, we'll take another look at emergency needs and community needs," said John Ostrem, executive director of the Northwest Minnesota Foundation. "Using available resources, the foundation will continue to support recovery efforts as much as possible."

In addition, the foundation has activated its Emergency Response Fund and will be accepting contributions to support the extensive financial needs of flood recovery. Individuals, businesses and organizations that are interested in donating to the recovery effort should contact the Northwest Minnesota Foundation at 218/759-2057, 800/659-7859 (Minnesota only).
