Bush Foundation Funds Human Services, Environmental
Health and the Arts The Bush Foundation, St. Paul, has supported health and human services, environmental health and the arts in its latest round of grantmaking in 2005. In the area of health and human services, the foundation awarded $140,000 to Neighborhood Involvement Program to renovate its facility. The foundation also awarded $36,000 to the Minnesota Indian Primary Residential Treatment Center for its capital campaign to build an addition to its residential treatment center on the Fond du Lac Reservation in Sawyer, Minn. Kinship Partners in Brainerd received a $10,000 grant to recruit 100 new mentors to serve the 60 children on its waiting list. In the area of environmental health, the foundation provided $400,000 to the Headwaters Foundation for Justice for its environmental justice fund, which will regrant the funds to small environmental groups that seek to improve health in communities of color, American Indian and low-income communities in Minnesota. The Community Design Center received $140,000 to expand a youth conservation corps and establish a peer leadership program on St. Paul’s East Side. The foundation also granted $200,000 to the Environmental Law and Policy Center of the Midwest to support work in Minnesota and the Dakotas on clean energy development related to the 2002 and 2007 Farm Bills. In the area of the arts, the foundation awarded $60,000 to Pangea World Theater to improve its ability to market itself and make connections with its communities. The foundation also provided $39,660 to S.A.S.E. The Write Place to support a leadership transition. In total, the Bush Foundation made grants of $7,294,602 to 49 organizations mostly located in Minnesota and North and South Dakota. For a complete list of grants visit the foundation’s Web site. |
