Knight’s Duluth Advisory Committee Starts New Term

A group of Duluth and Superior area community and nonprofit leaders has begun a new term overseeing investments in the region’s capacity for economic development by the Miami-based John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Knight’s Duluth Community Advisory Committee, chaired by Marti Buscaglia, president and publisher of the Duluth News Tribune, recommends and monitors Knight Foundation’s grant investments in local nonprofits, working with them to produce strong outcomes.

Other members of the advisory committee are:

  • Amy Bergstrom, director, American Indian Teacher Corps Program, Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College.

  • Robert J. Hartl, chair, department of management, College of St. Scholastica.

  • Pam Kramer, program director, Duluth Local Initiatives Support Corporation.

  • Dr. Kathryn A. Martin, chancellor, University of Minnesota Duluth.

  • Paula Reed, president, United Way of Greater Duluth.

  • Tom Renier, president, Northland Foundation.

  • Holly C. Sampson, president, Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation.

  • Kaye H. Tenerelli, executive director, Superior Business Improvement District.

  • Robin B. Washington, editorial page editor, Duluth News Tribune.

  • "Knight’s community advisory committee members play a key role in shepherding Knight investments. Their deep knowledge and caring about the community is invaluable in helping us serve the region’s needs," said Michael Maidenberg, vice president and chief program officer at Knight.

Since 2003, Knight’s local funding has focused on a cluster of partners committed to improving the region’s business climate and enhancing, increasing and diversifying businesses in the region. Grants have included support of the Area Partnership for Economic Expansion (APEX), Arrowhead Business Connection, Northeast Entrepreneur Fund, Women in the Trades, the Eco-Industrial Task Force and the Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation’s Civility Initiative.
