Knight’s St. Paul Advisory Committee Starts New Term A group of St. Paul community and nonprofit leaders begins a new term this quarter overseeing investments by the Miami-based John S. and James L. Knight Foundation in affordable housing and young children’s access to mental health services and oral health care in Ramsey County. Knight’s St. Paul Community Advisory Committee, chaired by Harold Higgins, retired publisher of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, recommends and monitors Knight Foundation’s grants to local nonprofits, working with them to produce positive outcomes. Other members of the advisory committee are: Joanne E. Benson, chief education officer and president, Minnesota Business Academy. Susan Haigh, executive director, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity. Denise M. Harris, call center supervisor, Xcel Energy. Thomas W. Kingston, president, Amherst H. Wilder Foundation. Carleen K. Rhodes, president, The Saint Paul Foundation. Par Ridder, president and publisher, St. Paul Pioneer Press. Lauren A. Segal, president and CEO, Greater Twin Cities United Way. Guadalupe R. Serrano, executive director, Casa de Esperanza. Paul Williams, senior program director, Twin Cities Local Initiatives Support Corp. William Yang, executive director, Hmong American Partnership. Earlier this month, it was announced that Knight’s Duluth and Superior area advisory committee had begun a new term overseeing investments in that region’s capacity for economic development (see related story in MCF’s news archives). Last fall, the majority of Knight’s funding was committed to two major, multi-year initiatives. The first, led by Ramsey Action Programs, supports a collaborative effort to provide a continuum of early childhood mental health services in Ramsey County. The second is aimed at increasing readiness for, access to and sustainability of homeownership on St. Paul’s East Side and is being led by Payne-Lake Community Partners. |
