Minnesota Latinos to Gather at Voter Participation Summit El Fondo de Nuestra Comunidad, a permanent endowment of SpectrumTrust in collaboration with The Saint Paul Foundation, announced that it is dedicating its 2004 grantmaking dollars to nonpartisan, community-based projects that focus on raising voter awareness, education and participation in Minnesota’s Latino communities. The kick-off event for this initiative will be the “Minnesota Latino Voter Participation Summit: Your voice, your vote, our future.” The summit will focus on the election process, voter engagement and voting rights. Community members, religious groups and organizations serving the Latino community are encouraged to attend to learn about El Fondo’s grantmaking process, participate in group discussion, and gather and share ideas and best practices for increasing Latino voter participation. The event is sponsored by El Fondo de Nuestra Comunidad of SpectrumTrust in collaboration with The Saint Paul Foundation, Centro Legal and Metro State University. The summit will take place on Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the Metro State University Great Hall in St. Paul, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Attorney Joaquin Avila, a national expert in Latino voting rights and lecturer at UCLA School of Law, will deliver the keynote address. The event is free to registrants, and lunch will be provided. For registration information, sponsorship opportunities or questions about this event, contact Firefly Community Solutions at 612/788-1749. |
