Initiative Foundation Seeks Volunteers of All Ages
for AmeriCorps*VISTA
The Initiative Foundation, Little Falls, is offering 19 paid community service opportunities in central Minnesota through a partnership with the AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) program. AmeriCorps*VISTA is a national service program similar to the Peace Corps. Working with administrative organizations like the Initiative Foundation, it places volunteers in U.S. nonprofit organizations to help bring individuals and communities out of poverty. In central Minnesota, the Initiative Foundation is seeking VISTAs for several faith-based organizations. In these programs, VISTAs recruit and match volunteers with those needing minor home repairs, respite care, friendly visitation, telephone reassurance and transportation. Other positions focus on developing financial literacy and entrepreneurial opportunities, expanding services for refugees, and coordinating services for combating homelessness. The foundation is also seeking an AmeriCorps*VISTA leader position, which requires prior VISTA or Peace Corps experience. Although the program is coordinated by the Initiative Foundation, each nonprofit organization interviews and selects its own VISTA who must commit to a one-year community service leadership position. Compensation includes training, a monthly living stipend of $840, health insurance and a $4,725 education award or end-of-service stipend of $1,200. "Whether you’re a recent college graduate looking for experience or a senior citizen looking for a way to make a difference, this is a great opportunity to learn new skills while serving your community," said Chris Fastner, Initiative Foundation Youth Development/VISTA Specialist. Interested persons are encouraged to visit the Initiative Foundation’s Web site for a list of position descriptions and application procedures. For more information, contact Chris Fastner at 877.632.9255 toll-free or cfastner@ifound.org. The application deadline is June 1. |
