Butler Family Foundation Supports Nonprofit Operations The Patrick & Aimee Butler Family Foundation in St. Paul supported the general operations of many Twin Cities nonprofits as part of its October 2004 grant awards. The foundation awarded 51 grants totaling $931,500 in the areas of arts and humanities, the environment, human services and the philanthropy and nonprofit sector. Of this total, 39 grants were for general operating support, primarily for organizations in the Twin Cities. The foundation's general operating grants ranged in size from $5,000 to $30,000. In the arts and humanities, the foundation provided general operating support to 28 organizations that represent a wide range of sizes and disciplines. Recipients include large arts institutions like Walker Arts Center, Minnesota Historical Society and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, as well as smaller arts and humanities groups such as CLIMB Theater and the Highpoint Center for Printmaking. The foundation's environment grantmaking included grants of $100,000 each to the Nature Conservancy of Minnesota, Minneapolis, to support the Sand Lake/Seven Beavers acquisition and stewardship, and the Trust for Public Lands, St. Paul, for the Vermillion River (Miles Property) Land Protection Project. The foundation also awarded five grants totaling $62,500 to help protect and improve the water quality of the Mississippi River in Minnesota, including $15,000 to American Rivers in Washington, D.C., for the North Minneapolis Riverfront Planning Project.
