The
Library Foundation of Hennepin County received a $60,000 grant from Best Buy
Children's Foundation for "Best Buy Teen Tech at Augsburg Park Library." The
grant will fund a program, to be launched in early 2006, that will engage
Richfield-area youth in using technology in an educational, meaningful way.
"Best Buy's generous grant
to the Library Foundation of Hennepin County and its concern for teens send
a message that libraries and literacy need to be a priority for all Hennepin
County residents individuals, corporations and community organizations,"
said Hennepin County Commissioner Randy Johnson. "By working together, we
can ensure a brighter future not only for the fortunate youths who will be
participating in this innovative project, but for the entire community."
The library program will be
built on a positive youth development model, translated into highly
interactive sessions that involve teens in the planning, implementation and
participation. Urban 4-H Youth Development, part of the University of
Minnesota Extension Service, will work with Hennepin County Library on the
program utilizing the Urban Youth Learn model.
