Blandin Earns Prestigious COF Award

Blandin Foundation was named the recipient of the national Council on Foundations' prestigious Paul Ylvisaker Award for Public Policy Engagement. The annual award honors a foundation that demonstrates excellence in affecting public policy by using creative and effective strategies.

The foundation was recognized for its leadership role in advancing innovative public policy to promote healthy forests and communities in Minnesota. The foundation teamed with local community leaders and the University of Minnesota to create a sustainable method to preserve local forestland and natural resources, which ultimately enhanced the economic viability of the Grand Rapids area.

"The Blandin Foundation is a leader in the public policy arena whose efforts to improve forest resource management through systemic change will improve the environment and vitality of Minnesota," said COF president and CEO Steve Gunderson.

The award will be presented at the COF annual conference in Pittsburgh, May 7-9. Accepting the award will be Bernadine Joselyn, director of Blandin Foundation's public policy & engagement unit, which is responsible for the Vital Forests/Vital Communities initiative; George Thompson, foundation chairman; and Jim Hoolihan, foundation president and CEO.
