Bush Foundation Focuses On Arts and Humanities The Bush Foundation gave $750,000 to the MacPhail Center for Music to contribute to the construction of a $24.9 million "flagship" facility to be built in the new Minneapolis riverfront arts corridor. The grant was made based on the national reputation of the school, its breadth of programming and its ability to serve economically and ethnically diverse students. The foundation also gave $750,000 to the Minneapolis Society of Fine Arts for a capital campaign to construct a new wing, renovate existing facilities and acquire additional art for
the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Three groups participating in the foundation's regional arts development program, which provides operating support for mid-sized organizations, received grants: the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, the Illusion Theater and School, Inc., and Theatre de la Jeune Lune. Other arts grants: The foundation also awarded grants to benefit education, ecology, and health and human services. Other significant grants included $1.2 million for the Family Housing Fund of Minneapolis and St. Paul to continue the development of a system of supportive housing for children and families; $1 million to high schools in Rapid City and Saint Francis on the Rosebud Indian Reservation to increase graduation rates; and $600,000 for the University of Minnesota to complete the development of an undergraduate minor in ecosystem science and sustainability. In all, $13,436,101 was granted to 67 nonprofit organizations in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. For more information, view a PDF on the Bush Foundation website. > More headlines |
