Albert W. Cherne Foundation Helps Students Who Have Learning Disabilities The Albert W. Cherne Foundation awarded two matching grants totaling $600,000 to Groves Academy in St. Louis Park, an independent school serving students who have learning disabilities or attention disorders. A $200,000 matching grant will create the Albert W. Cherne Endowed Scholarship Fund, while a $400,000 matching grant is for the Groves Academy Capital Fund. The capital fund is part of a $6.9 million campaign, "Great Minds...Think Differently," which will increase capacity to serve the needs of Twin Cities-area students. "The foundation, created in 1968 by Albert W. Cherne, is a family foundation, and education has always been a priority," said Sara Ribbens, foundation president. "My son, Erik, was the first in the family to be diagnosed with a learning disability. Our hope is that Groves will always be there for other children like Erik who need the special services Groves offers to the community." > More headlines |
