General Mills Expands Box Tops General Mills is introducing new extensions to the Box Tops for Education fundraising program. School foodservice operations and supermarket bakeries can now help raise money for schools. For the first time, school foodservice operators can earn $20,000 annually when they collect Box Tops from General Mills foodservice cases. Operators can collect box tops located on more than 150 of General Mills' foodservice product cases available to schools, including biscuits, cereal, cookies, muffins, snacks and yogurt. Each box top is worth 10 cents; box tops clipped from retail packages are not valid in the foodservice program. "Foodservice operators in our nation's schools are facing budget restraints and increased operating costs," said Rebecca Dehn, senior planner, promotions marketing. "Through General Mills' Box Tops for Education program, operators can earn the extra money they need to help offset food costs or to purchase new equipment." Through a special promotion developed for supermarket bakeries, General Mills is providing box tops stickers to place on bakery products, along with point-of-sale promotional materials to drive traffic to the bakery and encourage multiple purchases. The new stickers are worth "Double Box Tops" 20 cents on packages of baked goods, including cinnamon rolls, muffins and scones. General Mills has made available a full promotional kit, complete with stickers, shelf wobblers, ceiling danglers, table toppers and counter cards. Consumers who collect and redeem five double box tops on a new Bakery Bonus Card will double their box tops again, earning $2. The original Box Tops for Education program, introduced to consumers in 1996, is a school fundraising program that allows consumers to clip box tops from more than 800 General Mills products and turn them in to any enrolled school, which redeems them for 10 cents apiece from General Mills. To date, General Mills has given more than $150 million to more than 86,000 of America's K-8 schools through the Box Tops program. |
