The Kellogg Foundation
awarded nearly $287 million in grants during fiscal year 2005-06,
the largest annual total in its history and a 15-percent increase
over the previous year. The foundation awarded $39 million in
grants to the Gulf Coast region, making it one of the leading private funders
of hurricane relief and recovery efforts.

The Duluth-Superior Area Community Foundation awarded 38 grants
totaling $174,211 to nonprofit organizations in its nine-county
service region. Two of the recipients are the Scottish Rite
Foundation of Duluth, which received $22,135 for the Head Start
collaboration, and the American Composers Forum in St. Paul, which
received $12,000 for the Native American composer apprentice
program.

The Medica Foundation made
grants totaling $517,735 in its second cycle of funding for 2006 for
projects that address prevention and preventive services, healthy
living and health care literacy. The foundation also funded an
additional $250,900 in general health improvement grants and
projects throughout the state of Minnesota. In 2006, the foundation
provided $1.5 million in grants.

The Women's Foundation of
Minnesota awarded 23 grants totaling $320,000 through its Social
Change Fund in the 2007 fiscal year. 14 of the grants went to
nonprofits serving women in specific communities of color, including
African American, African, American Indian, Asian, Latina, LGBT
(Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender), general immigrant, and
general women of color.

The Catholic Community Foundation
awarded 36 grants totaling $103,000 from its Community Priorities
Fund for 2006. Grants provide financial support to nonprofit
initiatives that benefit young women and children, offer programs
for the elderly, and mentor young people in impoverished situations.

Blandin Foundation announced $3,441,585 in grants, which includes more than $1
million for scholarships and financial aid to area students. 88
percent of the awards will serve the Itasca and Grand Rapids areas.

The Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Foundation
awarded more than $4.8 million to 75 Lutheran organizations nationwide to
generate more than $160 million in immediate and deferred monetary gifts to the
recipient organizations. The grants are part of the foundation's Charitable
Gifting Initiative program. |

The McKnight Foundation awarded 160 grants totaling nearly $19 million in
its 2006 fourth-quarter grantmaking, including 16 arts organizations working to
ensure that high-quality arts experiences are available to people in all
communities. COMPAS, Inc., received a two-year grant of $264,000 for its
Community Arts Program, which connects professional artists and arts
organizations to Twin Cities neighborhoods, and The Loft was awarded a two-year
grant of $120,000 to expand its writing education programs into suburban
communities.

The city of St. Paul received more
than $1 million in multi-year grants for the Central Corridor from
The McKnight Foundation, F.R. Bigelow Foundation and
The Saint Paul Foundation. Funding will support a consultant
group with national experience in transit and corridor development,
as well as a design team and community engagement. |

The Northland Foundation awarded 46 grants from October
through December to help individuals and families transition out of
poverty. KOOTASCA Community Action received $25,000 for the Family
Employment Advocates program, which helps low-income people gain job
skills, access resources and find employment.

The Blue
Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation awarded 11 grants
under its Healthy Together: Creating Community with New Americans
program. The grants, totaling $495,000, promote good health among
Minnesota's immigrant populations and longtime Minnesotans by
increasing their sense of connection with each other.

The Jerome Foundation awarded 19
general grants and commitments totaling $425,200, including $11,500
for Milkweed Editions in support of the publication of two books by
emerging authors and $12,000 to the University of Minnesota Press to
support the 2007 publication of Nocturnes, the first book of
photographs by Chris Faust. |

The Initiative Foundation awarded 18 community grants totaling $131,300, including $37,500 to St. Cloud State University's early childhood mental health pilot action team and $6,500 to Catholic Charities for Central Minnesota's foster grandparent program.

The Southwest Initiative Foundation
awarded grants totaling $116,450 from July through October,
including $15,000 to the Jewish Community Relations Council to
expand the network and resources for the "Tolerance Works" program,
which provides professional development training focused on
integrating diversity education into the curriculum in southwest
Minnesota schools. |

Cargill and its employees
raised a company-record $9.26 million through the 2006-07 United Way
campaign, an 18-percent increase over the company's prior-year
giving campaign. Cargill's increase is the highest of any company in
the Twin Cities. |
