Wells Fargo's Metropolitan Contributions Committee (MCC) and the Wells Fargo Community Funding Council (WFCFC) awarded grants of $541,500 and $130,000, respectively, in June. MCC made grants were made to Neighborhood Development Center, Seward Redesign, Emerge Community Development, Genesis II for Families, Merrick, Inc., Achieve Minneapolis
- Focus Forward, Youth Express, Home Ownership Center, MAP for Nonprofits, Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, Guthrie Theatre, Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Public Radio, and the Minnesota State Arts Board's Category II grant program. WFCFC grants were made to Lifetrack Resources, Merrick Community Services, Centro Cultural Center, St. Paul Public Schools, Mounds View Public Schools, CommonBond Communities, Reuben Lindh Family Services, Early Childhood Resource Center, Hope Community Academy, Southside Family Nurturing Center, Catholic Charities, Lao Family Community of Minnesota, YWCA St. Paul and the Richfield Community Child Care Center.

The Minnesota Twins Community Fund awarded $243,700 in grants to youth baseball and softball organizations throughout the Upper Midwest. In partnership with the Toro Company and Land O' Lakes, the MTCF approved 26 Fields for Kids grants totaling $128,500. Grants of $50,000 each were also approved for the St. Paul and Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Departments to help each city operate the Twins Rookie League and Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities (RBI) youth baseball and softball leagues.

The Xcel Energy Foundation awarded $705,000 in grants for nonprofit environmental and educational organizations in Minnesota, including $80,000 to the Minnesota Private College Fund for new Xcel Energy Foundation scholarships directed to students majoring in mathematics, science, engineering or the environment; $25,000 to Great River Greening for its Million Acorn Campaign, which replaces oak savannas; and $15,000 to the Green Institute to promote the recycling of building materials that would otherwise go to landfills.

Delta Dental of Minnesota awarded a $50,000 grant to the
Mississippi Headwaters Area Dental Health Center in Bemidji to
address the severe shortage of dental care in the Bemidji-Beltrami
County area; the center is close to reaching its goal of opening in
January 2008. |

The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation awarded 29 grants totaling $203,548 in June. The College of St. Scholastica received
$10,000 for The Twin Ports New Americans Project; ISD #1 in Aitkin received $15,000 for the Parent Involvement Program; and the Minnesota Land Trust received $15,000 for North Shore Protection Initiative.

The Northwest Minnesota Foundation awarded 11 grants totaling $180,900 for children and families, community planning, natural resource protection and preservation, growth management and housing, including $25,000 to the Human Achievement & Performance Academy for the Hubbard County Youth Drug and Alcohol Task Force, and $15,000 to The People Connection, Inc.'s Broadband for Business program.

The Northwest Minnesota Women's Fund awarded $7,277 in its 2007 grant round:
- Climax-Shelly School District #592: $1,907 for a program for girls to focus non-traditional careers
- Headwaters Intervention Center, Park Rapids: $1,200 for support materials for battered women
- Family Advocacy Center for Northern Minnesota, Bemidji: $420 for staff diversity training
- RiverView Health, Crookston: $2,500 for a Women’s History Month program for careers in health care
- Sexual Assault Program of Hubbard, Beltrami and Cass Counties: $1,250 for information packets for drug facilitated sexual assault

The Northland Foundation awarded 43 grants totaling nearly $300,000 in its second-quarter grantmaking. A number of larger grants were aimed at helping area nonprofits grow their organizational capacity in order to enhance service delivery and long-term sustainability. Among the capacity-building grants: $68,400 to CHUM (Churches United in Ministry) to provide a case worker dedicated to helping high-risk, low-income adults find and keep jobs; $24,507 to The Keeley Group to deliver coaching and consultation to improve the organizational capacity of seven nonprofits serving the region; $47,575 to Life House, Inc. to support a full-time staff member devoted to program development in order to increase Life House’s ability to serve homeless and at-risk youth.

The Initiative Foundation awarded 31 community grants totaling $146,700, including $10,000 to the Brainerd Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce for its Bridges Workplace Connection to ensure a viable workforce for the 21st century based on targeted needs within the Brainerd Lakes area; $1,500 to Child Care Choices of St. Cloud for the Reason For Hope Retreat, a yearly weekend retreat for parents and caregivers having or caring for a child or adult with a disability; and $5,000 to the Milaca Public Schools' "Give Me Five" Mentor Program.

The Otto Bremer Foundation awarded a $225,000 grant to the
Initiative Foundation for the Healthy Organizations Partnership
(HOP) program. In a special partnership to improve services for
low-income families, this special HOP program will unite the leaders
of central Minnesota's six community action agencies. The HOP
program features a training series of nonprofit management and
planning sessions designed to help organizations better serve their
communities. Sessions include financial management, marketing,
governance, volunteer recruitment, strategic planning and
evaluation. Each organization will also receive $6500 in grant
support while participating in the program. |

Blandin Foundation awarded $5,776,790 in new grants, including a five-year loan of $1 million to Grand Rapids Economic Development Authority (GREDA) for acquisition and redevelopment of underutilized downtown properties; a two-year grant of $3,450,000 to Itasca Schools Collaborative for continued support of Invest Early; and $225,000 to the Minnesota Newspaper Association to continue the Editors and Publishers leadership program.

Young women participating in the fifth session of the Women's Fund's Habits of the Heart Program granted a total of $2,000 to Fraser, Inc., Make a Wish Foundation, Nokomis Day Care, Red River Valley Children's Advocacy Center, and WIC of Fargo and Moorhead. The program is administered by volunteers associated with the Women's Fund of the Fargo Moorhead Area Foundation.

AgStar Fund for Rural America awarded $3,500 to the Faith in
Action of Brown County to conduct a recruitment campaign to expand
the volunteer program in Brown County and will purchase a laptop
computer and LCD projector to train the new volunteers. |
