MCF Members Provide Support During The Holidays

Best Buy has launched its fifth annual drive to collect holiday gifts for underprivileged teens across the United States. Best Buy, the exclusive sponsor of Toys for Teens, has partnered with the U.S. Marine Corps to gather donations of gifts for children ages 12-15. More than 700 Best Buy stores will act as collection sites through Dec. 15. Customers may drop new, unwrapped items into collection boxes at any store, or make donations in $1, $5 or $10 increments at store registers. The Best Buy Children's Foundation is also including a $250,000 gift.
Target has partnered with the Salvation Army to create an online Wish List to provide essential items for those impacted by recent hurricanes, and individuals and families in need across the country. Visitors to target.com/salvationarmy can view and purchase clothing, household items, personal products and gift cards to be distributed by the Salvation Army.
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and its volunteers donated nearly 600,000 pounds of poultry to families in need in 18 states. Through direct grants and fundraising, Thrivent Financial and its members purchased 26,000 turkeys and 37,000 chickens for holiday hunger relief through Turkeys 4 America, then distributed them to hunger centers for Thanksgiving.
The Central Minnesota Community Foundation sent a $40,000 check to the United Way of Southeast Mississippi. The donation will help provide 3,900 meals for Thanksgiving and another 3,900 meals for Christmas, as well as toys for about 3,000 children. The CMCF is providing assistance through its Hattiesburg Community Partnership.
The Blandin Foundation helped provide Thanksgiving dinner to more than 200 people in Grand Rapids.
The Minnesota Twins have organized a week of events designed to help those in need. From December 12-16, front office staff, coaches, current and former players will participate in daily events such as a children's hospital visit, Toys for Tots donation and a People Serving People holiday party.
The 3M Foundation is holding a St. Paul Holiday Match for 3M employee and retiree cash gifts to Catholic Charities-Dorothy Day Center, Merrick Community Services, Metro Meals on Wheels, Second Harvest Heartland, Salvation Army, St. Paul Foundation Community Sharing Fund and Union Gospel Mission, up to $100,000.
