Jerome Foundation Supports Fellowships for Playwrights

The Jerome Foundation awarded a two-year, $168,000 grant to The Playwrights' Center in support of the Many Voices Residency Program and the Jerome Fellowship Program, continuing a tradition of awarding support to emerging playwrights for fellowship since 1976. Six playwrights each year receive financial support, readings, workshops, literary services and development opportunities. The foundation also awarded $19,575 to the center to support the development of Quick and its presentation in the Prague International Fringe.

In The Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre received $17,000 in support of a mentor program for three emerging artists, who will participate in the development of the 2006 MayDay Parade and Festival. Pillsbury House Theater was awarded $34,500 for Non-English Speaking Spoken Here: The Late Nite Series.

A two-year grant of $50,000 was awarded to Coffee House Press to edit, design, print and market six titles by emerging authors. The Minnesota Center for Book Arts received a two-year grant of $40,000 in support of a Jerome/MCBA Book Arts Mentorship/Fellowship Program. The program serves emerging artists through various stewardship methods in a working environment that fosters artistic development.

Other grant recipients in Minnesota were the Franconia Sculpture Park, The Soap Factory, Pangea World Theater, Southern Theater, Minnesota Center for Photography and IFP Minneapolis/St. Paul.
