Medica Foundation's 2008 Funding Priorities

The Medica Foundation has two opportunities to apply for funding in 2008. The funding priorities focus in the three following areas:

Behavioral Health: Filling the Gaps
Letters of inquiry accepted March 1-21
A funding opportunity designed to develop capabilities or change processes related to the continuum of behavioral health care service interventions, accessibility and sustainability.

Goals:

  • Develop and implement behavioral health care services as an alternative to inpatient hospitalization
  • Promote development of innovative services that address current gaps in service and support the continuum of behavioral health care services
  • Promote behavioral health care services that improve access and provide earlier interventions
Range of Funding:
Individual grants may be awarded for amounts up to $50,000.

Timelines: Letters of Inquiry accepted from March 1 through March 21, 2008.

Healthy Living
Letters of inquiry accepted March 1-21
A funding opportunity designed to modify and enhance lifestyles to achieve optimal health status and quality of life. Priority will be given to new or expanded programs that target physical activity, nutrition, weight management and obesity.
Goals:
  • Develop long-term lifestyle health behavior change programs based on proven strategies
  • Develop and implement innovative community or school-based programs that encourage lifestyle change
Range of Funding:
Individual grants may be awarded for amounts up to $30,000.

Timelines:
Letters of Inquiry accepted from March 1 through March 21, 2008.

Reducing Racial, Ethnic and Socioeconomic Disparities in Health Care
Letters of inquiry accepted June 1-20
A funding opportunity designed to identify gaps in health care for diverse and low-income populations and to develop programming related to the identified racial, ethic and socioeconomic disparities in the areas of health care literacy and preventive services.

This funding priority seeks proposals that equip individuals in diverse and low-income communities with access to information they need to navigate the health care system and make informed decisions about their health care.

This funding priority also seeks proposals that target improvements in health care disparities in the utilization and quality of preventive care in the areas of:
  • Well child screenings, inclusive of immunizations and blood lead testing
  • Prenatal and postnatal care
  • Cancer screening
  • Diabetes testing and awareness
  • Screening for sexually transmitted diseases
Goals:
  • Implement processes, resources and tools to increase individual’s knowledge of health care coverage
  • Implement processes, resources and tools to increase individual’s knowledge in addressing their health care needs
  • Improve utilization of preventive benefits in diverse and low-income communities
  • Increase early treatment for identified health issues related to screening services
Range of Funding:
Individual grants may be awarded for amounts up to $40,000.

Letters of Inquiry accepted from June 1 through June 20, 2008.
