The Bayport Foundation of Andersen Corporation changed its name to
Andersen Corporate Foundation. |

West Central Initiative earned
the prestigious National Standards Seal from the Council on
Foundations for attaining the highest standards for grantmaking
integrity and accountability. This prestigious award comes after a
national panel's careful review of WCI’s ability to serve its
nine-county region with the best practices for a community
foundation. |

More than 18,000 Minneapolis Public
School students at 61 schools are participating in the fifth annual
Presidential Active Lifestyle Award Challenge with funding from the
General Mills Foundation. The challenge is a six-week fitness
program that encourages students to reach the goal of one hour of
physical activity, five days a week. |

The Northwest Area Foundation announced its third annual Great Strides Awards:
- White Earth Indian Reservation, Minnesota
- Westhope (Bottineau County), North Dakota
- Independence, Oregon
- Brinnon/Quilcene, Washington
Each winning community will receive a $100,000 award for its successes to date, with the offer of an additional $40,000 grant to finance efforts to share their stories and lessons learned with other communities that want to replicate or adapt the poverty reduction strategies.

A record crowd of 35,835 fans
attended TwinsFest 2007, which ran Jan. 26-28 at the Metrodome. The
event was expected to raise more than $300,000 for the Twins
Community Fund; the fundraiser has raised more than $3.5 million
since its inception in 1989. |

Mayo Clinic's divisions of
pediatric cardiology and cardiovascular diseases donated two
automated external defibrillators to each of four Rochester high
schools and created a program to train staff members to safely use
them. The donation is the first phase of the nearly $240,000 ACT
Now program. |

The Central Minnesota Community
Foundation's sixth annual Community Charity Challenge exceeded
expectations and brought in $109,956 for the Salvation Army, Caritas
and St. Joseph food shelves. The Norman C. Skalicky Foundation
originally agreed to match every dollar donated up to $40,000;
however, the community donated $54,978, so the Skalicky Foundation
agreed to match the entire amount. Over the history of Charity
Challenges, the Skalicky Foundation has raised more than $400,000
for area food shelves. |
