2006 marked the first time seven Community Funds of
Minnesota Community Foundation each brought in more than $100,000,
either for the unrestricted endowment or the family of funds
program. The Community Funds program experienced significant growth
in 2006, going from $1,269,247 in total contributions in 2005 to
$3,191,575 at the end of 2006. The key to success is cultivating
long-term relationships with donors, says Jennifer Hoffman, gift
planner and community funds specialist serving northern Minnesota.
“As these foundations mature it's inspiring to see how they continue
to make a bigger impact on the community year after year," says
Hoffman. "The success is contagious."

Four key government bodies have now endorsed the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation’s plan to attract and retain young adults in the Duluth Superior area. The Duluth City Council this week joined the Superior City Council, the Douglas County Board of Superiors and the St. Louis County Board of Commissioners by adopting a resolution in support of the foundation’s plan. “The project to attract and keep young adults has real momentum, and many organizations and groups are getting involved,” said Holly C. Sampson, foundation president. Building on a variety of research projects, a community foundation task force worked for a year to develop a series of recommendations that will help transform the climate for young adults in the Twin Ports. The recommendations are short-term, long-term and ongoing,
and will engage individual and organizational partners.
