Coughlan Companies is awarding a $25,000 grant to the East Side Learning Center (ESLC), one of the largest and most successful year round tutoring programs serving children in kindergarten through 4th grade in St. Paul.

In addition to the grant, Coughlan Companies is making a long-term commitment to ESLC to provide volunteers from among its employees to assist with capacity building projects that support the organization’s expansion into more schools. Coughlan Companies will also be donating 1,000 books to ESLC to be split evenly between its four locations in St. Paul.

Comcast enlisted hundreds of volunteers on Saturday, April 25 to help nonprofit organizations upgrade their facilities. More than 1,400 local Comcast employees and their families and friends volunteered at 50 Twin Cities nonprofit sites as part of Comcast’s 8th annual “Comcast Cares Day.”

At the same time across the country, more than 50,000 Comcast volunteers participated on this annual day of service.

Wells Fargo’s Metropolitan Contributions Committee (MCC) has announced charitable contributions of $588,500 to Twin Cities metro-area nonprofit and community organizations in the first quarter of 2009.

In addition to monetary donations, the company provides support through volunteerism. In 2008, Wells Fargo’s Minnesota team members collectively reported more than 146,262 hours volunteering for local communities.

The IDEA Competition announced its four winners on Tuesday, May 12 in Crookston at the NMF Summit: Igniting Innovation. The winners are the forte Keyboard Company, IceHogger Industries, Ultralight Soaring Aviation, and Xtreme DnA. 

The IDEA Competition is a project of Ingenuity Frontier, a collaboration of partners joined by a common purpose — to grow the economy of Northwest Minnesota by outfitting the next generation of homegrown innovators for success in the global marketplace.

Forty grants were authorized at the recent meeting of the Trustees of the Otto Bremer Foundation, a private charitable foundation established in 1944 by Otto Bremer.

The mission of the Otto Bremer Foundation is to assist people in achieving full economic, civic and social participation and for the betterment of their communities.
