Phillips Family Foundation Changes Application Process

Aug. 4, 2008

The Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation announced changes to its capital grants application process that will begin in January 2009. The foundation will begin accepting requests for capital grants once per year through an online letter of inquiry process. The deadline for submitting an online LOI is Jan. 8, 2009. Requests for capital support will not be accepted for the foundation's grant application deadline of November 15, 2008.

"This change was made for two primary reasons," said Amy Crawford, foundation executive director. "First, we want to streamline the application process for nonprofit organizations, making it simpler for them to prepare requests that closely align with our funding interests. Second, we want to use foundation resources more effectively by identifying those projects that have the greatest potential for community impact."

Online letters of inquiry should be no more than three pages, accompanied by a capital project budget and organizational financial information. Potential applicants are highly encouraged to contact a foundation staff member to discuss their capital request prior to submitting a letter of inquiry.

Foundation staff members will review the LOI's received, and invite full proposals from those that most closely align with the foundation's interests and capital grant guidelines. The foundation will invite full proposals by Feb. 15, allowing applicants one month to submit by the regular March 15 grant round deadline. This will be the only time capital grants will be considered for the year.

Applicants can find more complete information about the foundation's new capital grant application guidelines, criteria for requests, funding considerations, and required format for online submissions at www.phillipsfnd.org. The online application format will be available for applicants Nov. 1, 2008 through Jan. 8, 2009.

For more information and questions about the new process, contact the foundation's grants manager, Dana Jensen, at 612.623.1652 or djensen@phillipsfnd.org.
