Minnesota Community Foundation and The Saint Paul Foundation
Launch
Collaboration to Grow Philanthropy
March 5, 2007
Minnesota Community Foundation and The Saint Paul Foundation long-time partners are fully aligning their board membership and launching a collaborative strategic planning process. While each foundation will maintain its unique identity and geographic focus, this alignment will help the two organizations more effectively anticipate and meet the needs of Minnesotans.
"Issues that face Minnesota's communities transcend geographic boundaries," says Jay Cowles, board chair for both foundations. "Collaboration is an important emerging trend across the community foundation field and a way to maximize philanthropic resources. Working together more closely enables the foundations to bring more resources to their respective donors and communities."
Both foundations' boards include a common slate of members with diverse representation from across Minnesota. These board members will develop and clearly articulate the strategic plan to determine how to best utilize resources for greater community impact, grantmaking, fundraising and investments, and to identify opportunities for ongoing partnership and synergy.
The Saint Paul Foundation and Minnesota Community Foundation already have a strong track record of collaboration. Since 1980, they have been housed together, served by the same staff members, and shared functions such as development and investments. Carleen Rhodes serves as CEO of the entire organization.
The foundations come into the strategic planning process on the heels of tremendous success over the past several years. The Saint Paul Foundation is the state's largest community foundation, and Minnesota Community Foundation has become the state's fastest-growing community foundation, more than doubling its assets under management in less than five years.
