New Social Venture Partners Teens Grant

Social Venture Partners Teens, a youth philanthropic organization seeking to help at-risk children and youth, will award one $5,000 grant in 2008.

This year SVP Teens is focusing on organizations that support quality out-of-school time programs for school-age children and youth who have limited access to such programs during the after school hours in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Social Venture Partner Teens are especially interested in programs that:
  • Provide structure and frequency to develop caring and trusting long-term relationships between youth and adults
  • Are responsive to the background, interests and needs of the children and families involved
  • Offer age-appropriate challenges and activities that encourage exploration and build competencies and skills
  • Provide learning opportunities that are active and creative
  • Include opportunities for youth leadership experiences
  • Have well-qualified and trained staff with skills and knowledge in child and youth development, communication skills, and cultural responsiveness
  • Have a clear ongoing evaluation system

Application information:
To be considered for support, submit an application to the SVP Teens Grant Committee. The application should not exceed three pages in length (not including attachments) and use a font no smaller than 10 pt. Please organize your responses by following topics:
  • Contact information:
    • Organization and program name with mailing and website address
    • Name of a contact person with their phone, fax number and e-mail address
  • Organization overview:
    • Mission
    • Origin and history
    • Goals
    • Special recognition or awards your organization has received
  • Program(s):
    • Describe how your program works and the benefits it provides to the children and youth it serves
    • Explain how you will measure the effectiveness of your program and the results you have achieved to date
  • Volunteers:
    • Describe how volunteers are used in your organization
    • List any volunteer opportunities that would be applicable for youth 12-18 yrs old
  • Request for support:
    • Explain how your organization will use the requested grant for out-of-school time programming
  • Attachments:
    • IRS Letter of Determination (copy)
    • 2007 year end financial statement
    • Budget for the project you will use the grant for

Requirements: Applicants must be a nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charity. SVP Teens will not consider grant requests from individuals, organizations that discriminate, religious organizations for sectarian purposes, sports teams, and political or lobbying organizations, nor will we consider requests for auctions or fundraising events, debt reductions, endowments funds or capital campaigns, litigation or legal expenses, land acquisitions, productions or performances.

  • April 18: Applications due
  • May-June: Evaluation and site visits to selected organizations
