Southwest Minnesota Foundation Sponsoring Renewable Energy Marketplace™ at State Fair

The Southwest Minnesota Foundation (SWMF), Hutchinson, is sponsoring a Renewable Energy Marketplace™ exhibit in the Wonders of Technology building at the 2005 Minnesota State Fair. The SWMF is underwriting the cost of the booth in an effort to advance renewable energy as an economic asset in the southwestern region of Minnesota.

The Renewable Energy Marketplace™ is a brand platform created by the Foundation in response to requests from industry and regional business leaders who saw the need to "speak with one voice." It enables the 18-county region to promote the area as the commerce center to invest, build, sell and distribute renewable energy products and services. The Renewable Energy Marketplace™ display will be open to the public at the Wonders of Technology building in the Progress Center area at the State Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Aug. 25 through Sept. 5.

The following organizations or businesses are partnering with the SWMF and will be providing displays, information, and volunteers for the State Fair exhibit:

  • Future Products, Inc. of Benson — a garment manufacturer that uses corn bi-products to produce fabric

  • Agricultural Utilization Research Institute (AURI) — a research and development arm for Minnesota agriculture established by the Minnesota state legislature

  • Clean Energy Resource Teams (CERTs) — in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Commerce, University of Minnesota Regional Sustainable Development Partnerships, Rural Minnesota Energy Task Force, Metro County Energy Task Force, and the Resource Conservation and Development Councils, Minnesota Project is working on creating regional resources for clean energy and economic development for communities across the state.

  • Farmer’s Union Marketing and Processing Association (FUMPA) — an association composed of three companies: Central Bi-Products, Northland Choice, and Midwest Grease — specializing in animal and poultry bi-products

  • FibroMinn, Inc. of Benson — a start-up company that uses poultry litter to produce energy

  • Initiative for Renewable Energy and the Environment (IREE) — a University of Minnesota organization composed of faculty and staff whose work and interests lie in renewable energy and the environment

  • Minnesota Corn Growers Association

  • West Central Research & Outreach Center (WCROC) — a University of Minnesota research and demonstration center based in Morris, MN, with a focus on renewable energy research and development

  • WINDUSTRY — a trade association seeking to promote wind energy
