Target To Sponsor 2007 National Volunteer Week

April 2, 2007

Target will sponsor 2007 National Volunteer Week, a service of the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network that takes place April 15-21.

National Volunteer Week began in 1974 when President Nixon signed an executive order establishing the week as an annual celebration of volunteering. Since then, every U.S. President has signed a proclamation promoting the week. Governors, mayors and other elected officials also make public statements and sign proclamations in support of National Volunteer Week.

"Target sees this as an extension of our corporate mission to support volunteering by recognizing outstanding volunteers and encouraging people across the country to get involved in their own communities," said Laysha Ward, Target's vice president of community relations.

The Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network supports the vital work of millions of volunteers who are helping solve serious social problems in thousands of communities nationwide. Find local volunteer opportunities at 1.800.VOLUNTEER or 1-800-VOLUNTEER.org.
