2008 National Volunteer Week, a service of the Points of Light &
Hands On Network, will be celebrated
April 27-May 3 to recognize the myriad ways volunteers improve
our communities. The event is sponsored by Target |

From the New York Times:
In July, a team of 8 to 10 I.B.M. employees will travel to Ghana to
help tiny businesses make their operations more professional.
Another team will help entrepreneurs seek microloans in Turkey,
while yet another will create training programs on information
technology in Vietnam.

For the third consecutive year, Americans say that giving one's
money to a charitable cause is easier than giving one's time.
According to a Thrivent Financial for Lutherans national survey of
1,000 adults, 52 percent of Americans said it is easier to give
money, while 30 percent said it is easier to give time. Sixteen
percent said both are equally easy to give.

30 trustees and staff of the John S. and James L. Knight
Foundation will join thousands of volunteers from around the world
and partner families to support Habitat for Humanity's 25th annual
Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project in the Gulf Coast, May 11-16.
Volunteers will construct and rehabilitate 60 houses and frame up to
48 more in the host cities of Biloxi, Gulfport and Pascagoula,
Miss. To address the critical need for affordable housing, Knight
Foundation is serving as the project's lead sponsor with a grant of
$1,050,000 to Habitat for Humanity of the Mississippi Gulf Coast,
and the foundation will sponsor eight of the houses in the work
project. |
