GRANTS OF NOTE August 2-8, 2005 |
The Cooperative Foundation Awards Grants To Support Education The Cooperative Foundation recently approved the funding of cooperative education-based grants to the Cooperative Management Association, CooperationWorks! and the Association of Cooperative Educators. The Consumer Cooperative Management Association (CCMA) received a $3,750 grant to financially assist Midwestern CCMA members attending the annual conference. CCMA is a professional association for managers, staff and directors of retail food cooperatives. A $5,000 grant was awarded to CooperationWorks! for its cooperative business development training program, The Art and Sciences of Starting a Cooperative Business. As the only cooperative business development training program for all enterprise sectors in the United States, practitioners learn from expert- and case study-based sessions. Founded in 1999, CooperationWorks! is a network of 21 cooperative business development centers serving 43 states. Funds from The Cooperative Foundation will serve as financial assistance for practitioners who may not otherwise be able to attend the training. The Association of Cooperative Educators (ACE) was awarded a $3,500 grant to support 2005 ACE Institute scholarships for graduate students and junior faculty. The Institute will be held in early-August in Alexandria, Va. As an international, professional organization, ACE provides its members a forum to highlight programs and practices that increase understanding, innovation and professionalism in cooperative education. |
