Otto Bremer Foundation Supports Human Rights and Social Justice with July Grants

The trustees of the Otto Bremer Foundation authorized 88 grants at its July 2005 meeting. The grants, totaling more than $3 million, support the areas of civic engagement, health accessibility, organizational effectiveness, shelter, and other human rights.

ARC Minnesota, Inc., received $180,000 to support a statewide civic engagement program over three years. Ready 4 K in St. Paul received $105,000 to strengthen engagement in Greater Minnesota of public policies that support improved school readiness of young children.

The foundation granted $50,000 to the African American AIDS Task Force in Minneapolis for general operations of this organization that provides education and services to individuals living with AIDS. St. Paul's Community Dental Care received $50,000 for start-up operating expenses for this organization that works to provide quality dental care for low-income families.

First Nations Development Institute received $200,000 for the Eagle Staff Fund, which offers technical assistance to Native American nonprofit organizations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Montana. Headwaters Foundation for Justice received $75,000 for the Fund of the Sacred Circle, a resource for Native Americans working for social justice in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
