DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Development Officer. This is a full-time position with some evenings and weekend hours required. Benefits include medical and dental insurance, paid time off, 12 paid holidays and a 403(b) retirement savings plan.


Primary duties and responsibilities:
The Development Officer will identify, cultivate and solicit funds from foundations and government sources and provide research and support for corporate solicitations.
  • Prepare grant proposals for submission to foundations and government entities. Manage a portfolio of current and renewal foundation deadlines throughout the year. Research and write grant proposals, solicitation letters and other materials as needed. Oversee the Development Associate and Development Assistant in completing and submitting basic grant applications.
  • Cultivate relationships with corporations, resulting in corporate support of the organization, including financial and in-kind contributions and volunteers.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the organization in order to achieve the BBBS mission. Participate in the creation of the annual business plan, promote teamwork and assist with special events.

Experience and qualifications requirements:
  • Baccalaureate degree in fund development or related field with at least two years experience developing corporate partnerships and researching and writing complex proposals with demonstrated positive results
  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising, including corporate, foundation and government solicitation; writing grant proposals; and prospect research
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms
  • Ability to cultivate productive and lasting relationships with corporate and foundation donors
  • Ability to think strategically and plan effectively
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
