MANAGER OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & E-LEARNING

Founded in 1969, the Minnesota Council on Foundations is one of the oldest regional membership associations of grantmakers in the country. Its mission is to strengthen and expand philanthropy. Members include family and private independent foundations, community and other public foundations, and corporate foundations and giving programs. With a $1.2 million annual budget, the Council is committed to providing service to its members and providing leadership in the field.


The position:
Reporting to the Vice President of Member Services, the individual selected for the position will work with Council staff and members to assess the professional development needs of its members, identify emerging issues and trends, and plan, develop, implement and evaluate high-quality learning opportunities. These tasks bring the Manager of Professional Development and e-Learning into ongoing direct contact with representatives of the Council’s member organizations. This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week); the position qualifies for employment benefits.

Specifically, the Manager of Professional Development and e-Learning works in partnership with the Vice President of Member Services in the development and delivery of the Council’s varied learning events, networks and online knowledge centers. The position is responsible for:
  • Designing, scheduling and delivering a professional development and training curriculum for grantmakers.

  • Developing, planning and managing at least one of the Council’s “Centers of Excellence” in corporate, community or family philanthropy.

  • Identifying and organizing resource materials to create interactive and comprehensive knowledge and e-learning centers for the different segments of MCF membership.

  • Managing assigned grantmaker networks and special interest groups.

  • Designing, scheduling and delivering seminars for our public/nonprofit customers (such as Grantseeking for Beginners) and other events as indicated by the annual work plan.

  • Developing and managing conferences and other Council learning and knowledge development projects and events.

  • Designing and delivering learning sessions on community or general interest issues for members and other grantmakers.

  • Ensuring that the Principles for Minnesota Grantmakers and the diversity/inclusivity goals and values of the Council are visibly incorporated into the Council’s learning opportunities and resources.

  • Planning and promotion of assigned programs, meetings and events.

  • Developing an annual work plan for all assigned programs, events and Member Services projects.

  • Managing budgets for member networks and other assigned programs and activities.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and a minimum of three years’ experience in foundation, association or nonprofit management

  • Demonstrated experience planning, developing and implementing effective adult education programs, training sessions and other events

  • Demonstrated experience in managing committee meetings and facilitating meaningful discussion

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the field of philanthropy or nonprofit management to clearly understand the issues, challenges and potential for these fields, and the ability to transform knowledge and experience into effective programming to advance the Council's mission, role and values

  • Experience in meeting and event planning and coordination, including negotiation of facility contracts and related arrangements

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team working style, with the ability to relate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds

  • Ability to organize complex, multidimensional projects; prioritize and manage multiple tasks and responsibilities; and meet work goals in a timely manner

  • Working knowledge of technology resources and strategies for communications, networking and delivery of educational training

  • Strong interpersonal, communication and computer skills, along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office


Compensation:
Competitive salary is commensurate with experience.
