EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota

Organization:
NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota (an affiliate of NARAL Pro-Choice America located in Washington D.C.) is dedicated to building and sustaining a constituency that uses the political process to guarantee reproductive freedom for all women, including family planning, sexuality education, maternal health care, and safe, legal abortion. NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota is a grassroots 501(c)(4) lobbying organization. Two additional affiliated organizations help advance the NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota mission. The NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota Foundation, a 501(c)(3), conducts public education and research intended to increase public awareness of relevant reproductive health care issues. The NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota Election Fund, a state political action committee, conducts direct electoral work with and for pro-choice candidates.
Duties:
The executive director, reporting to the board of directors, serves as the chief administrative and executive officer of the organization, overseeing all day-to-day operations of all three entities. The executive director provides oversight to the Abortion Provider Expansion Project, Phone Canvass Programs and works closely with the political director. The executive director will act as spokesperson for the organization, along with the political director, as appropriate. Other duties include:

Administrative:

Manage day-to-day operation of the organization, including staff supervision and progress on active programs

Manage organizational staff, including staff development, recruitment, and salaries
-
Work with the executive committee and the boards of directors of the 501(c)(4), the foundation, and the election fund on organizational priorities, goals, and vision
-
Assist in the development of strong and involved boards of directors to prioritize and implement the organization’s initiatives
-
Ensure organization’s annual program plan is in alignment with three-year strategic plan; provide periodic communication to all three entities described in organization section

Create, interpret, and implement the personnel policies

Manage Abortion Provider Expansion Project, along with coalition partner Pro-Choice Resources

Financial management:
-
Develop and manage an annual budget in consultation with finance committee and board of directors

Provide financial oversight and management of organization, including compliance with audit requirements
-
Maintain financial records and tax payments, as required by including all necessary Minnesota state and federal governmental policies

Prepare financial reports for the finance committee and board of directors

Fundraising:

Ensure that the membership, major donor, foundation, and all other revenue-producing projects work collaboratively toward a balanced budget

Develop and strengthen relationship with major donors

Coordinate with board of directors and staff to host successful special events

Supervise the research and drafting of grant proposals and grant reports as required

Serve as organizational spokesperson along with political director at events and with donors of all giving levels

Oversight of the field canvass program, including budget development and management, personnel policies, and ensure that the field canvass program continues to meet the strategic needs of the organization

Oversight of the phone canvass programs

Leadership development:

Model and cultivate leadership with pro-choice coalition and positive relationships with other prochoice allies

Seek opportunities for professional growth as an executive director

Identify opportunities for staff leadership development and foster means for staff professional growth

Spearhead collaboration between staff and board of directors that will result in the development of an organizational plan to manage a future executive director transition
Qualifications:
- Commitment to reproductive freedom and the mission of NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota
- Demonstrated leadership with multiple internal groups and aligning of common objectives
- Experience hiring and managing employees and volunteers
- Track record of successful fundraising
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Computer literacy
- Advanced organizational skills, with ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- Public policy and electoral experience
Other information:
- Organization’s office is located in Saint Paul; occasional travel within and outside of state required
- Valid driver’s license required
- Salary commensurate with experience
- This is a full-time position with health, dental, paid vacation and sick leave; employer-matched retirement benefit after one year
