DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS AND DEVELOPMENT
The Playwrights’ Center

The Playwrights’ Center, founded in 1971 and based in Minneapolis, invites applications for the position of Director of External Affairs and Development. With a budget of $1.1 million, the center has served 5,000 writers since its inception. Its program areas include a national membership program, fellowships, residencies and awards, an R&D lab for the development of new plays, a New Plays on Campus program, an exchange and translation program, and the annual PlayLabs Festival of new work.

The director of external affairs and development, a key leader within the structure of center management, is the primary fundraiser for the organization, including maintaining current funding relationships and cultivating new donor possibilities, grantwriting and final reports, and creating and implementing fundraising events each year. Secondary responsibilities include directing the center’s communication plan and community partnerships.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred)
  • Minimum of five years of successful fundraising experience
  • Knowledge of strategies and techniques for use in donor cultivation, solicitation, and fund stewardship
  • Proven capabilities with grant and proposal writing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of practices and procedures for obtaining information about the giving programs of corporations and foundations
  • Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective corporate and foundation donors
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups and individuals
  • A demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments from individuals, corporations, and foundations
  • Ability to take responsibility for a diverse number of projects with limited supervision
