E-COMMUNICATIONS INTERNSHIP

The Minnesota Council on Foundations (MCF), a statewide membership association of private and community foundations and corporate giving programs, is seeking a volunteer intern to assist in maintaining the organization’s website, www.mcf.org, and supporting other e-communications activities. This opportunity is at the MCF office, located in the Mill District of downtown Minneapolis. MCF seeks an individual who can devote 15 hours a week for two to three months, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. weekdays. (Hours and schedule are flexible.)


Benefits/specific learning opportunities for the volunteer intern include:
  • Honing and building e-communications skills, including website maintenance and design, e-newsletter planning and execution, e-postcard development and distribution, blogging and/or social networking activities
  • Building awareness and understanding of integrated communications strategies and tactics
  • Increasing understanding about Minnesota’s philanthropic and nonprofit communities
  • Gaining experience working in a service-oriented membership association
  • Enhancing organizational and other skills utilized in professional work settings

Position description:
Under the direction of the Vice President of Communications and the Web Communications Associate, the intern will source and update content for the organization’s current website, assist with tasks related to development of a new website, and support other e-communications tactics as requested. The organization seeks someone with a strong work ethic, enthusiasm for the profession of communications, and a commitment to service in the nonprofit sector.


Skills needed:
  • Proficiency with HTML
  • Exceptional writing, copyediting and proofreading skills
  • Interest in design, photography and electronic media
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to listen, ask clarifying questions and follow directions
  • Ability to analyze and make decisions
