About Project SUCCESS:
Project SUCCESS is a nonprofit youth-development organization that works with students in inner-city public schools over a six-year period, from middle school through high school, to help them develop life skills and inspire them to act on their dreams. Through in-school, goal-setting workshops, an innovative theater program, and after-school individual services, students learn to make informed choices and plan for meaningful futures. The position:
Project SUCCESS is seeking a director of development and communications to provide leadership, strategic direction, management and coordination for Project SUCCESS fundraising efforts. The director of development and communications will work hand-in-hand with the executive director and board of directors to help create fundraising strategies that increase the organization's support from individuals, corporations, foundations, events, and other sources. The director of development and communications will play a key role in identifying, cultivating, and securing local and national funding for general operating and program support.


Required qualifications and skills:
  • Working knowledge and a minimum of eight to twelve years practical development experience, including grants, major gifts, planned giving, events, annual funds, and campaigns
  • A gift for writing in a clear and compelling fashion
  • Ability to prepare annual fundraising plan, budget and income projections, and track and report performance against goals throughout the year
  • Ability to develop and implement creative marketing and communications strategies including print materials, annual reports, newsletters, web site, public relations efforts and brand management
  • Experience in strategic planning, ideally with a focus on a long-term growth, funding diversification and program expansion
  • A proven track record in leading and developing a professional staff
  • An eagerness to work collaboratively as part of a dynamic management team (executive director, senior development staff, and board of directors)
  • Ability to work with board and committee members to identify prospective donors and oversee strategies for involving the board and committees in donor cultivation and solicitation
  • A college degree or equivalent life experience required
  • High energy, positive attitude, enjoys challenging work
