DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
Lutheran Music Program

Organization description:
Lutheran Music Program (LMP) is a national nonprofit organization with offices in Minneapolis. The primary activity of LMP is the annual Lutheran Summer Music Academy & Festival (LSM). At LSM, 150 young band, orchestra and choir students from throughout the United States come together for musical study, performance and spiritual growth. LSM convenes as a four-week, residential training program on a different Lutheran college campus each summer, and is supported by an outstanding faculty of 34 artist/teachers. While founded in the rich musical heritage of the Lutheran Church, LMP serves students of all faith backgrounds.


Position description:
The Development Coordinator works closely with the Executive Director to sustain and expand fundraising activities. This position is responsible for implementing a program with the dual objectives of increasing the number of donors and increasing the amount of private gifts received in support of the operating budget. These goals will be achieved through a variety of activities which will be implemented by the Development Coordinator.


Specific responsibilities:
The Development Coordinator’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Identify, cultivate and manage relationships with current and prospective donors
  • Plan and implement the annual fund campaign to meet annually determined income goals
  • Create, write, and produce direct mail appeals
  • Manage fundraising databases and tracking systems, including individual donors; grants and contract administration; and other development functions
  • Develop a calendar of solicitation in coordination with the Executive Director

Requirements:
  • College degree required
  • Minimum 1-2 years experience in nonprofit development or sales role with comparable tasks
  • Successful experience in one or more areas of development preferred, including annual fund / individual donor management; grant writing and administration; direct mail; and database management
  • A self-starting, energetic leader
  • A professional demeanor, able to work successfully with a wide variety of constituents including donors, board members, volunteers, and staff colleagues
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to set the tone for an organizational culture that combines artistic vision, faith-based commitment and collaborative partnership
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, the mission of the organization including appreciation for music and respect for Lutheran worship and traditions
  • Experience and track record in securing resources for nonprofit organizations
  • Proficient computer skills in Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Experience with fundraising software is strongly desired

Salary and compensation:
This is a full-time, exempt position that requires five-week summer residence at the LSM Academy & Festival. Salary is mid $30s with competitive retirement, medical and vacation benefits.
